My wife just renewd her DL and had to provide ID documents to the DMV. The g-ov already has them, but not all in one place. Can you ask your PI friend if he knows if the documents scanned into the DMV database are able to be viewed by PIs?

Not by normal PIs, no. A few may be crooks with contacts inside a DMV. Depends of what kind of a client is after you, and how much money is involved.
