Google Voice - Can Be Useful

Submitted by: Charles, Washington, DC      Age: 45
I've had a couple of Google Voice numbers since before Google bought them and they were Grand Central (2008). None of them show up anywhere on the web, so I don't believe Google is selling info. One good use is they will act as the man-in-the-middle speed dial. That is, like the lawyer in HTBI who dials both parties who then start talking, GV will do that. Using a disposable cell phone and a number not in your name, you can have GV initiate the calls. This way it is always the GV number that shows up in Caller ID and on the billing records of who you call. No PI can call you and "ping" your cell as it isn't where the call is going. This is especially good with cell phones that aren't registered in your name. Keep the number, change the phone.
